My wife won't let me spend any money on the 1996 NF Fairlane V8 I just bought because "there's nothing wrong with it".

There stock exhaust sounds boring and my mechanic has suggested removing one of the mufflers and weldiing in straight pipe to replace it.

Is it going to sound any good? Is it going to have an adverse effect on performance/economy?

definitly sound better, take it to a specialist exhaust shop and ask em which one to remove, i would think the middle one and let the two others do the job, or take out the two smaller ones. could giv you a bit more power too...

A friend of mine had an EF XR8 and did a similar thing having the main muffler removed and leaving just the little one in the tailpipe, and to be honest it didn't sound that nice. Maybe removing the small one will give a better note. Won't be as loud though.
