anyone know if this is legal or not?

ive heard that its illegal to have it on the side, but then ive heard its legal as long as it exits behind the furthest rear door?!?

then theres probably an issue of which side it exits, as in curb side (pedestrian issue) or driver side....

searched around on the RTA website but couldnt find anything

any info would be appreciated

p.s. i also know the venom show ute had a side exiting exhaust (but they also had a non-airbag steering wheel so who knows what the deal is with that ute being legal!)

my plan would be to set it up exactly like this white pursuit below (anyone know info on this ute? someone posted this pic on the forums once, youd have to think itd be legal as this ute has it - just depends on state also i guess), and id like to have it exit both sides

I have seen a AU XR8 ute up here with the old "side pipes" which I haven't seen since the late 70s, didn't look to bad.
I know there use to be an issue with how far the pipes exited from the tyres but I don't know what the regulations are now .........I'm not to sure about the pipes on the white ute they look to high for my liken.

Falkeen, the fuel tank would get in the way on the passenger side. Probably be ok legally, but you'd want to check with the authorities in your state. I think so long as its a certain distance (100 or 150mm?) behind the rearmost opening into the cabin it is ok.

i thought with utes and commercial vechicles the law was 150mm from the drivers side rear wheel

I looked at doing this on the drivers side through the Pursuit skirt. There is a slight rise in the floorpan just in front of the spring hanger. The lip & possibly some of the actual sill, under the skirt, would need to be cut to get ground clearance. Then there is the issue of finding enough room to fit mufflers in? I put it in the too hard basket!
BTW... The ones through the side of that white Pursuit look terrible! (Miles too high)

well thats the way ill probably go!

ive already got the pipes either side at the rear, just gotta decide between a 3" tip either side or 2 x 2 1/2" either side (or 3"!)

are the pipes real on that white ute? you can but a piece exactly the same,(seen heaps for sale on ebay) you just stick them on or something like that for that cool look.

I belive that in NSW you're not allowed to have the exhaust exiting towards the kerb side. Which has me buggered as the NSW Police Paddywagons had/have extended tail pipes, exiting tothe kerbside.
