Sparks coming out of exhaust pipe - Ford Forums

There are sparks coming out of my exhaust pipe like fireworks when I boot it from the traffic lights.

Anyone know what it could be?

Looks reAal cool at night every time I dump the clutch
Any ideas would be good.

Sounds to me like you are spitting bits of piston rings out.

As cool as it might look, I'd be getting it seen to very quickly or you might find yourself catching buses.

Piston rings hmmmmm possible but I recon its the internals of your muffler comming apart & blowing the debris out the back end

Could also be carbon build up spitting out after the engine is red hot.
Check your compression and other vital stats of the engine.

Get a new mass air flow meter ,it will fix the problem i gaurante it.I see this problem at least once a week.

Oh, If your car hasn't got a MAF, buy one and then replace it. That should fix it.

A bloke from Herrod's told me the same thing when I rang up the other day.
Do you think that could be the problem or could it be something else?

I found that maf and cleaned it with thinners and brake fluid and it made the car run a little bit more smokier from the exhaust.

I don't thing thats the problem.

Yes, I have seen MAF do this on a mate's car just recently and I suspect Pete is right. He has seldom been wrong in my experience.

I once bought a car (too embarrased to admit it was a toyota)with a 2.6lt six that was very tired and burning lots of oil. This had clogged up the whole exhaust unbeknowns to me. When I rebuilt the motor and took it for a good run (it was night time) there was a trail of sparks coming out the back like New Years fireworks at Sydney Harbour. It was burning/blowing carbon out the system and the further I went the better it went as the inside diameter of the exhaust increased progressively!!!!!!

Have you rebuilt your motor lately?
