stainless steel exhaust $$$$ big dollars

I have a exhaust fitters garage near work so i went in for a quote 4 a s/s 2 1/2inch exhaust from the extractors back and he said $1400

I have a xa fairmont 351 cleveland so ive been looking for a new exhaust.
I have just bought an exhaust on the weekend its off a AU xr8. Its stainless steel 2 1/2 inch and it cost me $50.Im going to modify it so i can use every thing up to the centre mufflers then it goes 2 into 1 so it wont fit over my diff.

I rang up a s/s company that supplies s/s to my company and got a lenght of s/s 2 1/2inch pipe 2mtrs for $43 so all i have to do is get the pipe bent and fitteds over my diff which will cost about $200 so for $300
i will have a complete s/s 2 1/2inch system what a bargain and i will be able to save $1100

does any one know if i have to have cats?
do i have to have more than 2 mufflers? cause the ones on the au are huge

Re: stainless steel exhaust $$$$ big dollars

I think if the car was originally fitted with cats, they have to be on the car. No cats originally, no cats needed.

And all Aussie cars gotta have a Lukey

A stainless steel Ultra-Flow on a 351 would be the ducks nuts.

cheers

TopGhia is right. If it had a cat to start with, then it's illegal not to have one. I think every car from 85' onwards had to have a cat... not too sure on the last one.

depends, on the situation.

If your car is converted to lpg only, and the petrol tank is removed, then you can run without one.

Asthe xa fairmont 351 cleveland was made in about 1972 cats were unheard of.Only need cat converter on unleaded motors which started in 1986,but you could always put a cat under your back wheels, might give it more traction.
