I'm new to this forum and have a question: I recently bought a T3 TS50 auto which is currently standard but I'm looking to improve the engine note. I'm really looking for a deep V8 burble/rumble (the way the old V8s used to sound). And I particularly want something which sounds great at low engine revs. I also want to be able to hear it from inside the cabin a bit more without having to always open the windows (as at present!). But I don't want it to 'drone'. Am I asking the impossible?!
I know that Herrods do a complete system for around $2,400+GST. Whilst this is a lot of cash I would pay it if I could guarantee the system sounds exactly the way I want it to.
Any subsequent power increase is good - but I'm much more interested in the way it sounds.
So, I guess my questions are:
1. What are the best mods that I can make so that I can get this deep V8 burble?
2. If the complete Herrods system is the way to go then (for those who have the Herrods system fitted) how does the sound compare to a stock T3 exhaust?
3. Also, I live in the Brisbane (bayside) area - any recomendations on who could carry out the work would be appreciated.
Well done on the buy mate, what colour?, love the T3's. On the exhaust, I know what you mean when you say that old sound, nothing like it. Unfortunatly it'll never be that good with today's engines, old school will always be old school. And also there's regulations to think of and being from Brissy, you'd no doubt heard of the coppas gone completely maad stories around your way, we down here in Mexico (Vic) have heard and seen the antics of Brissy cops on the box.
The Herrod twin system is the only way to go mate, it was designed specifically for your car, and it's totally legal (db). I don't own a T3, but have heard nothing but praise for the HMS system.
Oh and welcome to FF.
BTW, this is in no way an ADVERTISEMENT for Herrod Motor Sport or any of their products. Just a recomendation OK.
Thanks for the info, guys. It seems the Herrod system is the way to go.
laminge: have you removed the resonators? If so, it doesn't 'drone' too much, does it? I think I may go for this option.
red-i: my ts50 is venom red with matching red brembos. I've removed the rear wing as I'm not a great fan of them. I only got the car a couple of weeks ago...I was told by the Ford dealer that it was the last unregistered TS50 in Australia.
Venom red, sweet. Post some pics up, would like to see what a TS50 III looks like without rear wing, I too think the series III would look better without the rear wing.
Garry, drone is the last think you'll be thinking of when you get the T3 on the road. There'll be more noise comming from under the bonnet than from the tailpipe. :s6: :s6: :s6:
D&T exhaust here have a systwm for Windsor V8's, about $2,000 gets a twin 2 1/4 stainless system, Pacemaker 'blues', and a tyno run. I've heard one, and it sounded awesome!
Eureka,
Since your on the Bayside have a talk with Ross at RACE ( reliable auto care) Capalaba.
Good bloke, knows his stuff. Highly recommend them for that mighty T3.
Have booked in to have Herrod's complete system installed later this week.
Red-i: here's a few photos...
As you can see I've removed the rear wing and also removed all badges (apart from Tickford ones on side). Probably most people prefer the wing left on (for the sportier look etc) but the reason I did this is so that the car stands out less etc (but still looks good, IMO!).
Still stand's out though mate, A T3 is a car you can not hide, but it's your car and I respect your decision, but I personally prefer the wing and badge's,cheer's.
Damn that looks good! I always thought a T3 would look better without the rear wing and that shot plus Falkeens pic (on another thread) of the rear with no spoiler has proved me right. Looks more simple but a lot more classier I think. I did this one afternoon with my car (AU1XR8, full bodykit) and have to say that it looked better without the Bi plane spoiler. Put one down for the "I like it" column.
Wow definetly changes the look of the car.I am looking to get the same Herrod system as well. Seeing as your a local it would be great if we meet so i could see your beast in the flesh.
Eureka, what did the total price come to including fitting by Hitech? Do you think you got the desired note that you were looking for. What courier did you use to transport the system up to Brisbane?
The total fitted price was $3,250. Possibly you could get it for less money by having a different exhaust place do the work. However, I was happy to go with Hitech because they are Herrod's 'approved distributor' and they deal with Herrod direct (ie if there were/are any problems then I'm not in this position of having to sort out who made the mistake...the exhuast fitter or supplier).
I get the impression that Hitech have only just started distributing Herrod stuff...but overall I was extremely impressed with their work (and attitude). I have been to other exhaust places in the past which, let's just say, leave a little to be desired...
The courier arrangements were all sorted between Hitech and Herrods.
As for whether I got the desired note...I was probably asking for too much (I knew that at the time of asking). I've hardly driven it so far, but as I say, initial impressions are very good indeed. At idle and low revs (with window's down) it has a very deep note - which is obviously louder than stock. As this is pretty much what I was looking for, I would have to say (at this stage) that 'yes' I have got the desired note. I've sent you a PM...if we meet up sometime you'll be able to hear it for yourself!
