Apologies if this topic has been thrashed, but whats everyones opinion on the exhaust pipe size for an EF XR6..... 2.5 inch or 3 inch back from the cat? I am wanting to open her up a tad, but not sound like a shes been fed on baked beans for a week. Also how many mufflers/resonators are reccomended for a free flow system with good note?

Most posts on the subject i have seen have recommended a 2.5" mandrel bent system

98AUXR6 - cheers thats what i am thinking.... with a free flow muffler and rear resonator?
Over here in Scotland it is only possible to get Stainless ones made up, so thats what it will have to be, I guess this will be a bit louder than mild steel? ...anyone know if thats the case ??

I'm not sure the volume will be louder, its more the design of the muffler that controls that, but stainless steel is more brittle than mild steel and resonates at a higher frequency, so all you'll notice is perhaps a slighlty higher pitched note rather than a deep mellow one. But personally I don't think it makes THAT much difference. Stainless is always better.
