Speed control resistsor block thermal fuse is fried. Easily replaced by
changing the resistor block, located by two small self tapping screws in the
blower discharge ductwork behind the glove boax, which is eary to remove.
The fan is still running in fast because in that speed, all the resistors
are bypassed, and the thermal fuse, which protects against overheated speed
control resistors if the motor were to stall in other speeds, is cut out of
the circuit.
You probably had a stall on the motor due to something like ice from
ingested water or snow in the fan impeller somewhere along the line.
Howerver, you said that on some days your fan is not running even in fast
speed. In that case, you may have a bad set of bushings in the fan motor
that are causing it to stall. If so, you will need to solve that problem as
well, or you will end up frying the new resistor bank thermal fuse in short
order.
