2005 Mercury Montego rack and pinion

Help! Anyone experienced this??!! Parents bought 2005 Mercury Montego
3 months ago. On their way North from Naples, FL to Massachusetts.
Went to get off Gainesville, FL exit. Steering locked. Almost died.
They are OK, but I need to know if anyone has had this problem with
this type car. Thanks.

Re: 2005 Mercury Montego rack and pinion

some taurus/sable vehicles which utilized similar powertrain had a faulty
transmission range sensor that caused intermittent loss of power steering
which makes it very hard to steer but not necessarily a lock up
condition.perhaps?
