Per the UAW's figures at http://www.uaw.org/barg/03/barg02.cfm , $25.63 x
2080 hours worked a year is $51465.04 base pay, not including holidays,
overtime, the company's FICA (7.65% of pay about $3900.00 base )
contribution, the company's provided healthcare and other benefits. The
company's contribution to each employee can easily cost half again as much
as the employees base pay per year.
The whole package has a price tag of well over $65,000.00 per employee, and
that is in second quarter 2003 figures.

All kidding aside, that is quite a hefty pulldown -- especially when you
consider that there may be two breadwinners in the family.
The upper 20% of Americans make an average of around $110,000 -- so a
family with two line workers doing overtime would easily be considered
"upper middle class" in terms of income.

Umm... How do you get 2080 hours in a year "not including holidays
and overtime"? Mistakes like this make like this make anything you
say suspicious.

2080 is the normal 40 hour work week per year including vacation time .
Over eight and over 40 hours are overtime as well as the overtime premium
paid for holidays worked

40 hours a week times 52 weeks a year equals 2080 hours worked, base pay.
Read your check stub to make sure your boss is not ripping you off.
7.65% is any employers FICA contribution foreach employee, just call your
payroll department. You should know what your boss takes out of your
paycheck,eh?
As far as my "well over" comment, fringe benefits are paid for by your
employer, that cost plus the cost of your hourly wages combine to make the
total cost the employer pays the employee. Your payroll department and/or
your union rep should have explained all of this to you when you began your
employment. In the case of the $51,000.00 base hourly wage, these other
costs will account for the total cost being over $65,000.00
