Yes, but think of the reliability...err... scratch that.... ;-)
I would say you might want to check that the vehicle's immobilizer is
working properly if it has one (my Saab Turbo does the same thing when
the immobilizer kicks in).
Confirm that you have voltage at the coil when your ignition is on and
that you have voltage at the fuel pump when the ignition is on. A bad
ignition switch may allow it to start but fail to allow it to keep
running (I'm assuming that's the problem based upon the description)
Where it an older car I'd say check ballast spark plug leads etc,
etc...
