Hardly.
A person who leaves their country on their own to surreptitiously
attack innocent civilians in another country for whatever reason is a
terrorist and should be sent to LIberia.
I think the British Gov't should pull out of Northern Ireland to
punish both sides. I have yet to see how Northern Ireland materially
benefits the English People. But I have also yet to see what is
stopping the "oppressed" Catholics from moving south or the
"beleaguered" Protestants from moving to Britain.
Northern Ireland looks to me like a nationalized version of Lorena and
John Bobbit.
PS I've yet to receive any of the free Petrol/gasoline on offer. :-)

For whom? The British?
The Citizens of the United States seemed to do ok for themselves by
showing the fortitude to demand value for their tax dollars.
Look at how the British citizen living north of London (past "the
wash") are treated. And these are people who can vote for the people
operating in London
Now imagine being a taxpayer in a distant part of such an empire
paying for yet another Millennium Dome or Olympics bid. The more one
learns of the way the system operates the more one realizes how
corrupt and irreparable it is.
I take it that you'd support and Emperor Blair or Emperiss Thatcher?
As I am sure you know, all of the population of Ulster considers it home and
the vast majority of the population likes it just as it (minus the violence,
of course, and it has thankfully greatly reduced).
Re your "benefit" argument, should we get rid of Liverpool...?... :-) Or
any other place where there is no 'benefit'?

1) The Wash (not "the wash") is a long way north of London. One of the
most prosperous areas of the UK is north Cheshire, also a long way north
(long by UK standards, probably only equivalent to a hair's breadth in the
USA...)
2) Empress. Empress Thather probably better than Big Boss Bush (or Blair,
but that depends on one's political perspective and and where we are in
their reign).

..... You really want an answer? :-) <tee hee>
In all seriousness I don't think one can realistically equate
Liverpool with Northern ireland. Somewhat different history and
population dynamics, but that is my perspective. and on this, perhaps
many others as well I believe we are different.
To continue on this entirely OT branch...and to make a spurious
connection...
....Liverpool is the secret capital of Ireland...

Perhaps all the black people who were abducted,
killed, maimed or otherwise brutalized during the
last 30 years of Slavery in the good old USA because
the English banned the practice 30 years befor the USA.
Perhaps all the people who pointlessly died in the USA
Civil War which would not have been fought.
Perhaps all the people who died in other wars that never
would have been fought because nobody would have
dared go up against the largest empire in history.
And do you really think that the representation
that was sought would not have been granted?
The Millenium Dome is a cheap glittering trinket
that distracts the easily distracted.
There is nothing wrong with a constitutional monarchy.
It has 4 pillars unlike the USA's 3 pilars of government.
It is better.
