The engine in my 96 Sable blew and I got a good deal on a used
replacement. I had it put in but now I am having problems that I did
not have before. The engine starts, revs and runs fine but the tranny
seems to buck and surge and shifting is erratic often too soon so that
I have to floor it just to kick down into a lower gear to move faster.
Before I take it to a shop, is there anything I could look at
beforehand to save a few bucks? Or is it the opinion of the group that
the tranny has seen better days. I've heard these trannies have had
problems similar to this but I don't know what the solution is.
The engine-tranny seems to be making a whirring sound (RPM related)
that it did not make before.
