UK '94 Granada Scorpio - Revs fluctuate & stalls

Hi

I have a UK '94 Granada Scorpio 24v Cosworth auto box which has developed a
problem

Sat in traffic in gear the engine revs will rise say 500rpm (usually) then
fall back - then the revs drop off to nothing (in about 2 or 3 distinct
drops) and the engine stalls/stops :-(

Any thoughts as to possible cures?

This is particularly bad in wet weather (almost every time you stop for more
than 20 secs) but also happens in the dry although nowhere near as much

Probably the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve; it's a shiny metal cylinder mounted
somewhere on top of the engine. Replace it (or you can try cleaning it). See:

Thanks for the quick response - I'll treat myself to some carb cleaner and
give it a go tomorow
