2005 XLT Lemon?

Purchased brand new 2005 XLT 4X4, 27-Jul-05. It has been out of service
for 18 days and counting due to the following reasons:

Advanced trak warning light (fixed = replaced computer module)
Service Engine Light on (fixed = replaced sensor)
Gas guage goes to "E"

The last item we are being told is due to sulphur that was in the
gasoline when vehicle was originally tanked up in Detroit. The fix is
replacing the fuel sensor. Should we be worried about further related
issues?

The dealership has informed us that Ford is now giving us an extended
warranty free of charge which makes us suspicious.

Has anyone had any issues with the gas guage /fuel tank sensor on a
2005? How about dealing with a possible brand new lemon? (Per the
Calif code, a new vehicle can be deemed a lemon if out of service for a
cumulative of 30 days.) Any assistance is really appreciated. LW

Fuel tank sensors are quite common. I have seen posts about backorders for
these parts taking a couple of weeks.

As far as your extended warranty, its only good if its in writing. Have your
service adviser give you a copy of the warranty Ford is providing. Research
it a little to find out whether they gave you the top of the line, or a
plainer version. How many miles will ir cover? ask for 100k.

You should probably check the details of the lemon law in CA if you are going
to try that route. There may very well be exceptions where back ordered
parts are not considered "out of service days". You will need excellent
records so take the time to be sure your paperwork is complete and accurate
when you pick up the vehicle. You will not be able to change it later.
Dealers know that law very well - so you may want to visit a website and bone
up on what YOUR responsibility is to prove you got a lemon, cause you do have
some.
