Damn! People that buy used 5.0 GT's should be required to take a basic
Ford systems course!
For EECIV Systems:
Does your tach bounce once when you turn key to on
Yes.. power to coil and through coil
No..NOT
So, Check for CEL and Fuel pump run on key-on, if not.. either Ign sw or
PCM power relay. If those work but no one-bounce = bad wire.
THEN
Does your tach bounce while you crank it
Yes, pickup and TFI working.. maybe not the best, but working
No, then likely the TFI, second choice the pickup
Get the TFI tool any store and remove it, if caky, replace it with
quality product: Echlin or Ford/Motorcraft TFI nad make sure to lube it
properly with Heat sink grease. If greasy... still MIGHT be the TFI, esp
if it's aftermarket.
If greasy AND motorcraft, not likely the TFI, prolly the pickup.
Budget a problem? Go get a distributer from salvage, insist on same
Part #, and Motorcraft TFI with greasy grease on it.
Cheap and you'll have the parts... and dont remove the dist, just replace
the parts.
