I have 235/45-17's on 17 x 8's front and rear on a '65 with rolled
fender lips all around. A '70's wheelhouses are much bigger, so you
might not need to roll the fenders. My rims have a 5.0 back space.
It's better to go with too much BS and use a spacer to move the wheel
out (I have to run a 7/32" on the fronts), than to have too little.
There's nothing you can do about too little, other than flare the
fenders.
I have hedman hedders full-lengths (I believe they're 1 5/8 primaries)
on a '70 Cougar with a 351 Cleveland with 2v heads, and needed no PS
ram mount extender. But a Windsor might be apples and oranges. Like
Scott said, the worst that can happen is you need to add the extender
later.
