There really isn't much difference between Republicans and Democrats
once they are in power. The Republicans should be running a huge budget
surplus right now (January actually had a $21 billion surplus) but they
can't stop spending to save their ass, and ours for that matter. One
thing the Democrats do want that I think would be an absolute disaster
is nationalized health care. I certainly don't trust the government to
make health related decisions on my behalf.
Basically, they are all money whores. They sell their souls for
campaign cash and free vacations. They get elected and think they are
now royalty that should have special perks and privileges. It has
always been this way and was likely worse before the advent of instant
communication to the general public. Anymore I am pessimistic about
cleaning up government. Power corrupts so the majority of whoever is in
Washington will likely do the same over time. The only thing that makes
me vote Republican is they don't seem to want to dig into my wallet with
new/higher taxes and the are more proactive with national defense (for
better or worse). Democrats lean toward socialism, to which I am
definitely opposed. Plus Democrats had 40 years of welfare that was
supposed to help the less fortunate and all it did was make them more
dependent and less self sufficient. Also, they have no new ideas (their
olds ones don't work) and they won't listen to the more centrist members
of their party. Actually, at this time, the Republican Party is much
more centrist than the Democratic Party. Look at who is running their
party, Howard Dean, Nancy Polosi, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy. People like
Evan Bayh, Bill Richardson and Joe Lieberman are ostracized because they
aren't liberal enough. I wonder if Bill Clinton could get the
Democratic nomination if he were running in 2008. I think he would be
considered too centrist. What has happened to the Democratic Party is
the same thing that could have happened to the Republicans if Pat
Buchanan had been successful.
