I have that one, and it brings up a question. I've been waffling
around over the necessity of caging the Torino. I figured the combo
going would be conservative enough to stay in the 12's. But checking
out other builds elsewhere the only way it seems it would go that slow
is if I drag a Camaro on its roof tied to my rear bumper. What do you
think?

Depends on what it ends up weighing. Pat's 67 Mustang went 11.17 in Vegas.
Did you read my post about the 557 Pat built that went 10.25 in a Torino?
It's in the high 9's now. If the firewall is stock, you can run 11.49 with
no roll bar.

I'm figuring around 3750 with me in it. I'm not looking to put this
car on a diet other that chucking the dead weight. Gotta keep the
flat-hood sleeper look. There's a guy that runs at F-Bird with a
'70-ish Chevelle that's silver with the black SS trim layout. It runs
low 12's wheels-up and looks showroom stock. The bleating onlookers
think it's nifty. It needs to be fanged by a Ford.

I thought the track's website mandated a roll bar at 11.99, but I
just checked it and they say to ask tech about requirements on cars
faster than 12.00. Not quite the same thing, I guess. If 11.49 is the
cutoff, then I'll just put in sub connectors for the time being.

I don't recall if it was here or in another board but the same basic "to
cage or not to cage" question was asked and someone gave an answer that made
a lot of sense. Basically the gist was that unless the plan is to use it as
a dedicated race vehicle caging is not a good idea unless you want to wear a
helmet every time you drive it. DOM steel tubing is very hard on the
unprotected cranium and while it will definitely protect you in a crash if
you're properly attired it can actually be more dangerous if you aren't.
I suppose the consequences could be minimized by the judicious application
of padding & tie wraps but it seemed like a salient argument to me.

I agree. Cages in a street car are a problem. Personally, if I could
get the ABA logo screened onto a black Bell helmet, I would consider
driving around and intimidating other motorists. Preferably on Sunday
morning as they head to and from church.
The Torino will not be driven on the street, except for testing
purposes.
