It's ironic that the previous owner decided to sell the Mach 1 because of a
close friend that had died of lung cancer 3 months prior. He had too many
toys and was slowing down and I was neglecting my wants and was revving up.

Max,
What I have in mind is something that will eviscerate every other
performance car in its path. It will flatten every pedestrian hapless
enough to be within 50 feet into a putrid lump of bubbling entrails and
shredded flesh. It will bitch-slap every righteous do-gooder, tree hugger,
and chevy owner into whimpering submission. It will send import owners
diving into rice paddys with bricks tied to their necks. Who ever pilots it
will speak in tongues, walk on water, possess awesome magical powers, and
impregnate every quivering female that will most assuredly swoon and faint
from beholding it. The seas will boil red and part for the Brethren of the
Big Block FE engine and Mustang enthusiasts, and it will lead the way in a
glorious parade through the valley of the shadow of death, for not only will
it fear no evil, it laughs and spits in the face of evil and triumphs in
victory after victory in the presence of it's enemies. The clouds shall
part and the sun shall shine as the Heavens shower the muscular flanks of
the Holy steeds with purified Holy water every morning before sunrise. It
will be a time for rejoicing, to be sure.
Amen.
That's all.

John, that was absolutely beautiful. It's the most inspirational piece
of writing I've seen in a long time. I feel a renewed sense of purpose.
I must now look away before I get all pansy ass and mist up.

Been there done that. It is my expert opinion, calculating the above,
that you have precisely $17,853 set aside to build your engine.

Thanks. I'm sure I'll have help in accomplishing it.

Back in the 70' there was a comapny named Speidel that used to make a
watch band called the Twist-o-Flex. This what we used to call the pre
71 Mustangs. At 400 horsepower, you will begin to crack and separate
several areas in the chassis. This is where you begin.

Sage advice. I seem to recall similar advice from a friend a couple years
ago. Thanks. Something like sub-frame connectors, a G-load brace, and a
strut tower brace should help.
I'm not 100% sure what I'll do yet. I want to keep looking into what parts
went into what I got first. Hey, didn't Ford start stamping the VIN number
on the back of the block on the drivers side just below where the heads bolt
on in 1968?

If I go above my meager 275-300, with good traction and low gears I will
most definitely add more to it than an export brace to stiffen the
chassis. It dropped right in thankfully. She was a six banger car, so
there is no strut tower "lean" like my T-code had. And no cowl rust at
all.
People with '64 1/2-66 cars need to worry about this more than anyone
else...

I don't recall. You can look for that but I still think the date code
near the oil filter adapter is much easier. I have no idea what a
G-load brace is for the old cars. Maybe that's what they call an export
brace these days. Is this a stick? What gears?

The date code at the oil filter is not readable. It was either a poor job
at the factory from day one, or someone didn't want me to know what it is.
I'll try to do a pencil rubbing across it to see if that brings anything out
I can decipher.
The car was produced on April 11, 1969.
Yep, it's a stick. It has a 4 speed, wide ratio toploader transmission.
The rearend is a 3.25 Traction-Lok (Detroit Locker ). See my signature.
