Following the little skirmish with those fellows in red, the founders
wanted to divorce themselves from England, and so established our own
system of weights and measures, including money. No more would we base
the foot on the length of the Kings real foot, nor weigh people
balanced against the stone. Why, we don't even speak the King's
English, as anyone who has spent time across the pond can attest.

In Vancouver we bought beer by the yard. a 3 foot tall glass, slender
with a bowl at the bottom, in a wooden frame. By the time you got to
