When will you Yanks get it right? A pint is 16oz not 20! ;^) ( that's 4
gills) and if you drink too much you'll put on a stone or two which of
course you know is a 1/4 of a hundredweight. I'll give you a fortnight to
think about that. StuK

A while back we had a new chemical unit start up and it had terrible
corrosion problems. The materials engineer from Canada started
quoting the corrosion rates in furlongs per fortnight! He's a riot!

Or would it be US #8.8? I don't know, 9.25 * 1.25 = 11.56. Which base
are we using? I'm confused, ImperialOzSnake #40.8. Good thing we've
been given a fortnight to figure it all out.

Honestly, what I don't yet understand is how we've used the English
system, and yet there IS such a thing as an "imperial ounce / pint /
quart / gallon". When and how did we Yanks screw THAT one up??? I
mean, we're using base 8, 12, 14, 16, 20 et al. already, now we gotta
change shit? Come ON.

( that's 4

One gill would be about one healthy gulp for me.

A stone -or two-? Yep, betwixt 14 and 28, you'll find 25!

I'll give you a fortnight to

If you get into old currency, we'll need many moons =)

In Civil War times, we had (I've got a few) what some still call a
"3-cent nickle". I suppose that's somewhat like a 20-oz. pint, eh?
I'll take a nickle for three cents any time!

ALES SECTION ADDED. And I'm going to add the glasses page, whether it
offends thy imperial sensibilities or not

Damn it

I live in front of a computer screen

=)

Not this weekend

In front of the beaten Tempo's wheel, in front of a deer rifle, and in
front of large glasses of ale (not in that order, mind you).

Following the little skirmish with those fellows in red, the founders
wanted to divorce themselves from England, and so established our own
system of weights and measures, including money. No more would we base
the foot on the length of the Kings real foot, nor weigh people
balanced against the stone. Why, we don't even speak the King's
English, as anyone who has spent time across the pond can attest.

In Vancouver we bought beer by the yard. a 3 foot tall glass, slender
with a bowl at the bottom, in a wooden frame. By the time you got to
the bottom, the beer was quite warm, and hit home with gusto.

pounds and crowns
and threpenny pence,
and farthings, too,
with half crown and shillings...

Good hunting and may you slaughter about a hundred of them dam car
killing, corn eating, bean trampling, furry bastids. If Iowa had a high
power season where I live I would be blasting too, but I refuse to use a
dam shotgun on deer. Still haven`t decided whether to try black power
though. KB
