This is the side of the argument I like. I tend to be a pessimist, but
I really have hope for this group.

Re: OFF-TOPIC NEW YEAR'S THREAD

Happy New Year All!

Welcome back CJ.

Haven't posted for a while but popped in a few times for a minute but no
time to type anything worthwhile. I've been busier than a one legged man in
man asskicking contest, unfortunately not on anything good just mundane
everyday shit.

Thanks for the Nigel link sheeee-it man I haven't heard a lot of those
tunes for 15+ years. I almost forgot the JAM even existed, damn scary. Local
radio here is abysmal, the classic rock stations are even getting dreary...I
find myself putting on AM oldies just for a change g^O!!. StuK

I bagged a falcoon that I'm farting with. That's been my high point
over the last three months.

Nigel kicks, doesn't it? Of course I lived in L.A. in the 80's, and
I was a huge fan of New Wave and the leading station that featured it,
KROQ in Pasadena. I am so tripped being on cable with streaming music.
It's so much better than this new crap.

Also see http://javajanesworld.com/, run by an ex-SoCal girl now in
New Yawk. The feed isn't as high q as Nigel's, but the playlist rocks,
too.

So I see. What year is it again? I had a good Falcon site bookmarked with
some tech in it but it seems to be dead. It had some brake swap info for
early Falcons that use a power booster from dare I say, an import!

This is a decent site for resto stuff. A good heater box resto that has
crossover value to early Mustang too.

Sure does! I heard some Peter Murphy today and last Friday they had triple
plays. Looking forward to some TRB and Japan if they play it.Nice to hear
the remix versions too. I'd kill to hear Echo and the Bunnymen extended
"Silver"
I lived in the UK from '77 to '79 so I lived the post punk new wave era and
managed to escape some of the disco drek! There was great alt rock station
here in Toronto called CFNY in the 80's. It still exists and is still new
alt rock but not quite to my taste ( "some guy screaming, screaming,
sreaming in a leather jacket"!)

<MORE SNIPPAGE>

If you were in the UK in the late seventies you were probably listening
to Radio Caroline. We used to listen at night when they would start
playing the good stuff. I was there off and on between 11/76 and 12/79
with Uncle Sam's Flying Circus at Mildenhall.

Add thus one too. It is the new home of the site I lost. Thanks to a fine
fellow on the Falcon forum of Ford Muscle. It has the power brake swap info
using a Geo Metro booster and master.

I was in the North East and though I know of that station, we listened to
Radio 1 and a local station called Metro 261 even Radio Luxembourg was
around too. Radio 1 was rather poppy but 261 had the more eclectic mix. 261
also first played the demo recording of a local Newcastle band, you may have
heard of them Dire Straits? ;^)
Radio 1 used to announce the top 10 at lunchtime on Thursdays and I used to
hear it and hightail it to school just in time. All my classmates would have
to wait till the Top of the Pops that night to hear it unless I took pity on
them and told them the new number 1.

Top of the Pops was fairly lame but you got to see a few great acts but
usually lip syncing. MTV gets most of the credit for "the video" but videos
were the way
the better bands wouldn't have to lower themselves to appear on the cheesey
Top of the Pops program yet still realizing that TotP was very important to
getting sales.

I saw Garry Numan ( Tubeway Army) premiere with "Are Friends Electric" on
TotP. He is apparently one of Marilyn Mansons biggest influences but I won't
hold that against him!

The best music show in England then was "The Old Gray Whistle Test". It
showed actual live bands in serious studio setting. I was lucky to see the
Police, Tom Robinson Band and the Boomtown Rats among the few I recall.

It was great time musically and I was lucky to get away from the North
American music scene those two years to experience the post punk "New Wave"
Alternative genres at a critical age. Luckily when I moved back to Canada
the new music started to become more widespread as the 80's hit.
