It is invaluable. As a person realizing that experience is very often
far, far more important than smarts, I wish I still had someone willing
to be my mentor. Circumstances changed around us, and it is no more.
As a kid, I had to figure a lot of stuff out on my own, because my
father was divorced from my mom, and a very angry, very patient ass. My
mother and brother just weren't around much, literally or figuratively.
As a result, I made some bad decisions out of ignorance, and still
continue to a make a few, because there are still holes. Also as a
result, I don't want to have children, because of what I fear I would
inflict on them.
