I got a paint quote today from a shop that does nothing but Sikkens
base/clear. Wasn't that Scott (ya still, alive?) that had some Sikkens
shot on the Mousetang? They are quoting a 4-5 day turnover.

It's flat out THE best paint on the planet for auto's!!! 'Course that's just
my opinion. Here's a few pics to show you what it looks like after 2 base
coats and 3 clears, no wet sanding done yet. It's glass and perfectly smooth
even BEFORE the wet sand. Very deep.

The thing with Sikkens is that it's not only shiny, but has depth, there is
a difference. Especially if you get the good stuff. The base white single
stage paint that was used to do the hood stripe cost like $130/pint not
counting the hardener and all the rest. This was the HIGH HIGH HIGH end
stuff.

Another nice thing is that have tinted primers so you can use less base coat
for coverage. The thicker the paint the more chances of having problems. The
clearcoat is where the money's at. At least on my car.

Sikkens also has the best colormatching program in existence.

Sounds about right if all they have to do is prep paint and buff.

The bodyshop that did my paint only uses Sikkens also. They had the car for
3 weeks, but most of that was dent repair and rust removal. The whole paint
process took maybe 1 day to shoot and 2 days to sit and cure (even though it
was baked at 185 degrees for several hours after shooting) and 2 days to
wetsand, buff, and polish. They wanted to wait awhile after the bake to make
sure it was completely cool and hard enough to start rubbing on. They were
really careful and took their time, even when it wasn't necessary.

They specialize in Porsche restoration so they will only use the best, even
for the morons who paint their $2400 Porsche 914 Targa's with a $12000 paint
job. Sheesh, the customer is always right. Here's a link...

Oops, that was probably confusing. I meant this pic is a year AFTER the wet
sanding and with only 1 coat of wax.

In short? Well... I had my ex coming after my entire paycheck even though
she gets half of it anyways in child support, I started getting nasty phone
calls from the District Attorney, I got a letter from the DMV stating that
my DL was going to be suspended, I had my wallet pickpocketed on New Years
day while on duty and 3 days later my girlfriend (who I was considering
asking to marry me) broke up with me on the grounds that "this just isn't
what I want". Then I had my paycheck garnished by the Department of Homeland
Security for non payment of child support (which I had paid). All in the
period of about 1 week. I spent 5 hours waiting in line just to get my
picture taken for my new DL which was stolen and might get suspended anyway,
just to be told that I would receive it in the mail sometime in the next
month, after which it may have been suspended anyway. The $50 gift card to
Kroger's/King Soopers was to pay for my food for the next 2 weeks and since
my paycheck was garnished I couldn't pay rent, insurance, electricity, etc.
and now I 'm raiding my brothers refrigerator to eat until my next paycheck
in another week, which hopefully won't be garnished also. I don't have money
to buy anymore alcohol, I'm thinking of switching to Listerine. I hear it's
like 28% alky!! Hey party on!!

Anybody hear about the lady who got a DUI last week or something after
drinking 4 cups of Listerine before leaving her house? EESH! I'd PUKE if I
drank that stuff.

So how's everything on your end?

Well to be honest, I had a rough year myself. I took a $21000 kick in the
nuts this year. Made a few real stupid decisions. Sold a truck and bought
another which cost me over $10000 in repairs. (diesel motor and everything
around it) Then a few weeks before christmas some douchbag stole my 2005
Yamaha Grizzly. Another $11000 gone. However this is ****-all compared to
what you've gone through. Hope things improve for you - I wish you the best.

I used to paint in a Sikkens shop and am now painting in a shop that uses
PPG Global. There is no question, Sikkens is BY FAR the better of the two
paints in ease of use, color match, coverage, etc.. I would take a pay
cut to work in another Sikkens shop. It's expensive, but worth every penny

Scott, can I ask you what they charged you, not counting your
stripes if you have that figure?

And Mike, thanks for weighing in. If I were to ask these guys to
