Snake info thread

Hey Snakes-

I'd like to gather some basic info on the active members of the group as
the record keeper guy. It goes without saying that your participation
is entirely voluntary. Please don't think of this as presumptuous or
probing, I am just trying to get the roster filled out

Let's start here:

- Name, and / or pseudonym

- TS number

- Location (it could be "City, State" or "Country, Province, City" or it
could be "North Jersey" or "Western PA").

- Birthday (no year is expected, but whatever)

- On-topic vehicles, with descriptions as you see fit. As many as you
want. If you're like CJ, and you have more than 20 and want to say so,
go ahead!

- On-topic areas of expertise, whether professional or hobbyist, e.g.,
"Holley carburetor expert, FE guru, transmission / drivetrain maven".

- On-topic professional designations, accolades, inventions, ETs, trap
speeds, lap times, whatever makes the most sense in your particular case

- On-topic and related hobbies or activities

- On-topic projects

- Email addresses (know I have no sinister motives, and remember the
"voluntary" part. If you want to send me one of yours, just send it to
"mailto:jello72@iwon.com").

- URLs to your sites or other interesting related sites

- Whatever other biographical info you wish to provide. Recently, we
learned one of our members holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology, which was
interesting. Maybe some of you were born in Botswana, and can juggle
seven parking cones while whistle-humming both staves of Rachmaninoff's
Prelude in C# minor with both sets of vocal chords. Who knows?
Whatever you want! It's all in good fun.

I won't post anything to the Web you don't want me to, and I am not a
freaking spammer or scammer. Just keep that in mind. I respect
peoples' privacy, and am a respectful person in general. Some of you
know this already, and can personally vouch for it. Some of you have
little idea about it, so participate at whatever level you want,
whenever you want.

K?

I'll do this, too. Any and all info gathered will be stored in a
12-key-protected file of unknown type, on a floppy disk, unlabeled, and
stuck in a locked box.

Thanks Snakes! I'm looking forward to your responses.

To put them out there, here are mine:

You know what... I re-thought this, and it is presumptuous of me to ask
for this info. It would also quickly lead us off topic, and it's just
unnecessary, so just ferget it. It was just an err in judgment on my
part...

I don't think it's silly or really that big a deal to want to know more
about who we all are. It might add a dimension to our threads if we know
where the other's are coming from. Like me. I have ZERO on topic vehicles,
but I come here since the chat is more interesting and informative than
RAMFM. I also have enthusiasm for knowledge. I'm not an expert on anything,
but I know a tiny bit about most of things. Car audio mostly.

I DO however bleed Ford Corporate Blue, and have owned several classic Fords
and a few other "brands". I'm from Aurora, CO and work for the Dept of
Homeland Security. I'm an ex military medic and the first car I ever owned
was a '70 Sportsroof Mustang. I'm a musician and have played Trumpet for
over 20 years. I'm 34 and have 2 kids, both girls 9 and 11. Both think the
Mustang is the most beautiful car ever made.

Just an idea...
One of the police associations I belong to has a listing of all the
cops who are members on their web site. The web site is open to
anyone. However, the personal information about each individual is
only accessible by those members whose dues are current and they have
they correct password to enter the Restricted Area.

In this way, members can have direct access to email addys, phone
numbers, etc, and the general public is locked out.

I bring this up because many years ago (1960s) some military
recruiters (not all of them by a long shot) were getting information
from fresh recruits during "casual conversation". They then used the
information to steal personal vehicles of value from those who had
them since private autos could not be taken to basic training or
technical school thereafter. Which gave the recruiters anywhere from
6 weeks to nearly a year to steal the target vehicle.

You might want to consider this. Up front you could list everyone and
have pics of cars etc, but only in the restricted area have personal
information.

I don't mind giving out a little info, you guys probably already know most
of it anyway. I live in Tucson, Arizona, am single, and am facing the big
53 on November 19th, which will also be the 37th anniversary of passing the
road test for my driver's license in my 1968 coupe. The coupe's not on
on-topic here, of course, but my 68 fastback sure is. I've been involved
with Ford all my life as my dad worked in management in Dearborn. I
couldn't imagine ever owning any other brand of vehicle. As they say, I
bleed Ford Blue.

My expertise comes more in the show arena as I've been showing my coupe in
concours competition since 1982. I've been on the Board of Directors for
MCA since 2000 and am currently up for re-election. Last year, I reached
Gold Card status for 1967-68 concours judging and soon will be submitting my
test to be a certified modified judge.

I'm pretty hard to beat at detailing a car, and have some basic mechanical
expertise. I'm trying to learn more, especially with a cantankerous
fastback to deal with. I do know how to do bodywork and paint and am not
afraid to tackle any other task in restoring or modifying a Mustang.

You already know I'm an archaeologist, well, I own an archaeological
consulting firm here in Tucson and work around the Southwest. Guess that
pretty much covers everything.

Yeah, that's very true. I just felt like it wasn't necessary to press
the issue, lead us off topic, or for me to keep hammering out post after
post... "enough with this guy already".

>Like me. I have ZERO on topic vehicles,

Strictly speaking, I don't either. But a couple of yours, and mine, had
big blocks as optional equipment, anyway...

Same here, on RAMFM. And I am similarly thirsty for knowledge about a
lot of things. I lost my interest in car audio after I developed
tinitus. I wonder what it would be like not to hear ringing constantly.
If I'd only worn ear plugs at all those shows and concerts...

Interesting stuff. Homeland Security must be both intriguing and
somewhat daunting work. I am a frustrated musician, married six years,
with no kids. I'm from Wilton, CT, and my first car was a green on
green '77 station wagon. My father had two '66 Mustangs, and sold one
and gave up on the other around the time I was 15. I was unworthy of it
while it was still fairly easily fixed up, so the better course of
action was just to let it rot away at a friend's garage nearby. It was
truly a sad and untimely death for such a nice little car my grandma had
bought brand new. He's a big part of the reason I don't have kids.
It's not just because of the Mustangs, though =). It's great you're
passing the torch with them, and evidently they have highly evolved
senses of aesthetics!

Alrightee then... here I am hosting the posting rules, leading us off
topic. Good to chat in any case. Spike's suggestion is good, and
wouldn't be that hard to develop....

Totally cool... My field, after law enforcement, combined with
cultural and physical anthropology, and perfect for studying old
fossils like my 65 Fastback (and me), and the ergonomics and mental
drives which powered technological advancements from stoneage tools to
the 2005 Mustang. : 0 )

Your coupe is on topic, just not the engine.
