I'm tired of scraping the collectors on every speed bump and driveway, not
to mention the trailer floor trim they pulled up, so I'm swapping out the
Hooker SuperComps on my fastback for something that hugs the chassis better.
I'm hearing good things about FPA headers. Any other suggestions for my
390?

Yep, but the ones with GOOD ideas are staying quiet. Here's my

If time and money were no object, my choice would be www.headersbyed.com
..... But - Ed has stopped taking orders for complete headers for a while,
and his headers (albeit custom built for the application, and very nice)
will run around $1500 with ceramic.....
Ed also sells parts to build headers, and will spec out tube size, etc, etc.
for ya, but talk about a MAJOR PITA!!!!! (and I've built 3 sets from his
stuff...)
I would look at Hedman first - I have an aincent set on my truck, and they
fit very well. Dunno about FPA - got a link?

It seems from the talk in the FE forum that FPA's are the way to go
for ground clearance. Hedman, as mentioned already, does make them, but
I'm unsure of the clearance. Most of the old-time designs were for
stock height cars. Are your Hookers bashed real bad?

So far, there is no damage to them other than some scraping on the
collectors' edges, but I've been very careful and haven't done much driving.
I can see really having some fun with the car and bottoming out hard. Don't
want to go there....

If these are the one-piece-per-side Hookers, I may take them off
your hands if you go with something else. What-his-name at FPA is also
hip to the slight differences in port exit height on the various heads,
and will supply appropriate tubes.
Are you stil going to tear down this engine? Is that really
necessary?

Yes, they are the one-piece-per side Hooker SuperComps. We're going to
change to a roller cam and different carb and put in the Edelbrock heads,
and probably a few other things. We want to make Trouble a little more
driveable but still with a bad attitude.
