It is more a matter of final drive ratio in rear axle than the "chug
a lug" tranny. If your rear axle ratio is around 3.55 or taller with
a OD and that 4.9, it will not tow well but it you gear it up to 4.10
or so it will do a good bit better. It will not be a barn stormer but
it should do okay up to 5000lbs or so with deeper gears (if you want
to go through the trouble of changing them) otherwise I would limit
myself to popup campers as it sits now.
