hi, my 99 ranger (manual transmission) has been making a sqealing noise
when i let out the clutch in first gear - it used to be more noticable in
colder weather but it was also happening regular this past summer. seems
like it may be beginning to make a little squeal from first to second gear
now. of course the truck is out of warranty but i did take in in earlier
this year for various fluid changes including transmission fluid change. it
did not reduce the squeal. it has fairly new tires on it and has had all
the scheduled maintenance done since i bought the truck new in 1999.
there does not seem to be any difference in clutch engagement or anything
else - just the noise. i don't drive the truck that much (42000 miles since
99) and would surely like to figure out what is going on before i do damage.
i have delusions of being a home mechanic but have not idea where to start.
i google searched this newsgroup and did see a couple postings with
identical description of this problem but there were no replies. please
someone give a few suggestions on what it could possibly be.
forgot to post this possibility: could it be a belt slipping. seems to be
more noticable when i let out the clutch a little too fast (i have a bad
habit of doing that). it is not a continual noise - just a slit second
squeal when i dis-engage the clutch starting in first gear.
