The trouble is that some of the owners manual tow ratings are more
dream than reality as they do not really factor in wind drag from big
cross sectional trailers nor hilly terrain or whether for highway
speeds too. A 4.9 with automatic and stock gearing is going to be a
marginal tower at best. There is not much reserve power in that truck
for towing as it sits.
