Warranty

Anyone have a perspective on the 100,000-mile warranty Ford offered on the
7.3 liter Diesel (1999 version)? I have an F-250SD with 99,870 miles on it,
and the local dealership just charged me a lot of $$ to replace a water
pump. When I asked about the warranty, the, um, service advisor told me that
it only covers the engine (though it reads 'Drive Train')...is a water pump
considered part of the drive train? He didn't feel that the factory warranty
covers the transmission either (though that's not an issue), so I'm kinda
suspicious. Dealership just changed hands and a lot of personnel...

Any input appreciated -

Gene

Re: Warranty

If memory serves, the water pump on my '05 6.0L diesel would be covered
under the engine warranty. Basically covers the engine and any moving part
attached to it. However, I believe in most states there is a deductible
($100?) for engine warranty work after the basic 3/30 bumper to bumper. Your
manual collection should include a warranty booklet.

You got screwed. My local dealer put a water pump on twice for $100 a
time under warranty.

Re: Warranty

Hey, I have a 2000 F250 and I had to have the water pump replaced. I had
about 72.000 miles at the time and I was in Florida. All I had to pay
was the one hundred dollar deductable. I think you got riped off.

They did the water pump on my 2000 F-250 for the $100 deductible. In
the warranty information is specifically stated that it was a 5-year
100,000 mile ENGINE warranty.

I believe your truck was out of the 5-year period.

Re: Warranty

You need to get a writing

Send a letter to the dealer and to Ford explaining what happened. Let them
know that you will go to the BBB and Dept of Just. if they do not resolve
this themselves.
Usually the parent corp. will resolve this and you will almost always win.

Take it from someone who has taken that route a few times - go up the chain
and you will win - even ifyou have to take it to the BBB.

All it takes is letters - make sure you get receipts for delivery of the
letters - it will help if you have to go to the BBB or the state you live
in.

Good luck, let me know if I can help some, I have gone through this with GM
(suburban), Hertz and last years Monro tire - I have done fine every time.

Take Care!
