02 Mondeo

I had my Mondeo serviced few weeks ago together with handbrake test as i received letter from Ford dealers regarding a call for MONDEOS FOR FACTORY HANDBRAKE RECALL. After service and handbrake test and after 3 days my car was parked and it rolled and and damaged a car in front. Police came to the scein first and did noticed that the handbrake was up. I took my car next day to ford dealers to have my handbrake tested and offcourse after testing the dealers said that there was no problem with the handbrake. And thats all they said. Saw i which means i have to pay access to insurance and offcourse loose my no claim bouns. Can anyone help as to how i can go further with this issue.

Re: 02 Mondeo

well this just goes to show why you park your car in 'park' or 'first'. why youd park in neutral just amazes me. no doubt the dealer has tested your park brake on a flat surface so therefore they say it works. get another dealer to look at it and if at worse ring an ombudsman and explain to him the situation. also make sure in the police report that it is written that your handbrake was on. i guess if Ford claim there is no fault then your just gonna have to wear it.

Re: 02 Mondeo

Talk some sence here man. You dnt park ur car on a downhill on first. It should be on reverse gear. You dnt reply to anyone if u dnt know anything.
Thanks and good bye.

Re: 02 Mondeo

Follow this logic... if you're car is trying to go forward and your transmission is in reverse with the engine running what would happen if you dropped the clutch? Best case scenario - your engine would stall and then be pushed in opposite direction to what it normally runs - this is bad. I've seen hydraulic cambelt tensioners pulled back in by the reverse loading and when the car is started the belt jumps a tooth. Also by having the car in reverse facing down a hill it means the compression you'd be relying on to prevent the car moving in the case of a handbrake failure would be on the power stroke of the engine cycle but with the piston rising instead of being on the compression stoke. Because of cam timing this would result in less pressure in the cylinder and less hill holding power.

The rule is you put the car in the gear which it would need to be using to go down the hill. So if your car is facing uphill you select reverse. If the car is facing downhill you use 1st.
