what are they like for petrol not the newest mondeo's but the 2001-2002-2003 versions?

I own a TDCi 130 model and i get 600miles to a tank of desiel
my dad owns the 2001 2.0 Ghia (petrol) and he gets around 400miles to the tank

I wouldn't bother with the petrol version, gutless and fuel consumption is poor. Diesels far better option.
