I have looked through all the threads in contour section and can't find my problem.

My 95 keeps blowing the brake light fuse...even put a 30 amp in and it still blew.

The brake shift interlock quit a month ago and I rigged that so the shifter will work...

I recently noticed the cruise control doesn't work either...it worked fine before.

Could it be the brake light switch on the brake pedal or a short?

Would a brake light switch malfunction cause the short?

Any ideas or suggestions....I'm trying to avoid an expensive dealer visit.

That fuse runs to the speedometer too. Does it blow only when you apply the brakes or as soon as the fuse is put in?

thanks for the reply...for a while it would not blow right away, then as of yesterday it seems to blow as soon as the brake pedal is pushed. not sure if it runs the speedo though....it works fine

i've been doing some reading on these cars and it seems there are a lot of wiring issues.

i'm assuming its a short....and like i said in the first post, i think the switch on the brake pedal needs to be replaced as well, as the shift interlock and the cruise control doesn't work.

I haven't seen a lot of wiring issues with them, At least no more than other cars. Do the turn signals and hazard lights work okay?

Yes the turn and the hazards signals work fine...like i said....if the brake light switch is done and the shift lock switch is done...do you think its the switches or a short?

I dont want to buy switches then find out its a short somewhere...

I don't think it's the switch. There's an orange/yellow wire from the stop light switch that goes to the 3rd brake light, an orange/black wire connects to that wire and goes to the turn signal switch, PCM, andInstrument interface module. If you have remote entry, there's a lot more wiring from it.

Still looking for the short....I do have remote entry and the doors locked by themselves a couple of times.

Would you know where I can get a wiring diagram for little or no cost?

Here are 2 diagrams. One for the stoplights and the other where the wire goes to the remote system. The orange/white wire (M), in the remote diagram, goes to the remote module.

I thought it might be something simple...would low batteries in the remote cause any problems?

Low batteries wouldn't affect it. On the diagram, follow the O/Y wire and you'll see where it goes. Follow it and you can see where the power goes when you hit the brake pedal. Electrical is not an easy thing to fix. Even mechanics have to have a knack for it.
