96 Contour rough idle

I am trying to get fix a rough idle on this car. It has the 4-cylinder / automatic trans. When you come to a stop, the engine idle is very rough, but if you put it in park or neutral (no torque on the engine) it is smooth. Other wise, while driving seems to be OK. I tried changing plugs and air filter but did not help. I was going to change the PVC valve, but you have to drop the catalytic converter to get to it!!! Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

Yes the AC is on. If I turn off the AC, the vibration goes down about 50%.

Re: 96 Contour rough idle

I know that this was posted a long time ago... but I'm out of ideas.
I have the exact same car, with the same problem. Were you ever able to fix it? If so, how?
I would love any sort of help. Thank you.
