96 Mondeo 2.0l si hissing under load - Ford Forums

Hi

I have a 1996 2.0 si mondeo which has just started hissing when under load at around 3000 rpm. It also stutters a bit when driving at constant speed but this stops when accelerating.

The air filter is clean, so does anyone have any ideas please?

Sounds like the cat. may be partially blocked.

Thanks for the reply, but the sound is definitely coming from the engine bay so would this be the cat?

Also, if it is the cat being blocked, is there anything that can be done about it without buying a new cat?

The 'o' ring that will be blowing is situated on the exhaust manifold. It is possible to take the cat. off and break up/remove the insides but you'd be in trouble come MOT time, and it may not run properly.
