confused 98 Contour losing power, tranny slipping

I have a 98 contour, 4 cyl, with alittle over 100000 miles. For awhile it has been going crazy when it warms up. The first symptom will be it almost seems like there is no gas getting to the engine, then it's as if gas does get there, but when it does, the tranny will wind up like it's going into passing gear, but no power to the wheels. Sometimes it will kick into passing gear and take off. I took it to a local shop and had them run the diagnostics. They came up with the Oxygen sensor, and a coolant temp sensor. I replaced the o2 sensor behing the catalytic converter, also replaced the timing belt. since doing that, the car hesitates on take off a little, but when it warms up, it is doing the same thing. One more note (hope it helps) If I turn the engine off while it's acting up, the next morning(engine cold) it will act the same way about not getting gas...it will do this a few minutes and then it's like it clears itself out and runs pretty good until it warms up again.....Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated

If the check engine light is not on, then I would start with the fuel system. Could be a filter or pump.

MOVED to Contour discussion.........................

Thanks, I'll check that out, I did forget that, the check engine light was on before I replaced the O2 sensor, it came back on shortly after replacing it and is still on...going by autozone today and get the code....could the other O2 sensor be causing any of this?

confused Re: 98 Contour losing power, tranny slipping

I have a 97 Contour and I am having the same problems with losing power and tranny slipping. I too have had mine to the garage and censors replaced and my engine light went off for a day or so and now it's on again. Can you help me? Thanks in advance to all your help.
