98 Contour with stuck door - Ford Forums

98 Contour. The driver door is stuck closed. The rocker type interior lock is stuck in the the unlocked position. The exterior key has no effect. There is tension on both the interior and exterior handles but neither will open the door. I suspect the latch assembly is to blame but I cant figure out to to get it out to replace it. The screws to remove the door panel are on the jamb area and inaccessible from the closed position. I cant access the lock from the vertical support separating the front and rear door either.

Any recommendations?

Probably the electric lock actuator has siezed, but it could also be the latch as you suspect. Not an easy DIY. I would recommend a locksmith or bodyshop.

try if you can to remove the interior panel (even if you have to get a replacement for it) and get at it from the inside!
