I feel a little stupid right now, but after unscrewing the oil filter on my 98 Contour V6, I can't find a "path" to remove the filter. It can't go up (metal pipes prevent this). It can't go down (solid metal bracing and exhaust system prevents this). I would say there is no way out, but the old filter had to have gotten there somehow. Can anyone enlighted me? Thanks!

Surely if you can get your hand to the filter you ought to be able to weasel it out the same way.

If you take the front passenger tire off the filter should be accessible. It wouldn't be a ford if it wasn't designed to encourage trips to the dealers service department.
