black smoke

any suggestions please, black smoke but only when accelerating, mondeo 02 tdci, i,m guessing something to do with the turbo but unsure, 86k miles, if i build up speed gradually no smoke, only when i sink the foot,

Black smoke usually indicates a rich condition. Is your car OBD compliant? If so read the codes from the ECU if you can.

Can you hear a hissing sound also? If so check the hose from the intercooler to the EGR valve.

i have found that if i take the small black rubber pipe off the diaphraghm that is on the turbo unit there is no longer black smoke but when i put it back on again the black smoke is back, could this be that the diaphragm is u/s
