Contour starter
Hello all, looking for a some useful info. I have a 95 Contour GL
2.0 auto. While doin some routine maintence, I noticed an excessive amount of corosion on the battery terminals, so I cleaned them off then hosed down the bay with water real well. The next morning I go to the car and it has a dead battery, no prob I'll just jump it ( I figured I had left the lights on or something ). As soon as the last jumpercable is in place, the starter hits! No key or anything? A take that jumper cable loose and put it back on again and the starter hits again. I tried taking the starter fuse out and still it hit. I split the 2 postive cables off the battery and just connected to the smaller one and you could hear the solinoid HIT. I left it like this, connected only to the smaller one, so that I could have some kind of Power in the car to take it out of Park ( you have to push the brakes to set off the automatic relay to get the shifter out of Park ) Next I connected it just to the main wire goin directly to the starter, the much larger wire. Nothing happened... So my questions are, did the soliniod get grounded out because of the now Acidic Water or is there another possibility?, If it is the soliniod does this happen often? How difficult is it to remove the starter? and finally Does anyone know the Steps to get the starter off or maybe just some pointers?
