New Boy here.
Sorry if this has been raised a thousand times, I have searched the forums but I,m still not sure.
Just taken ownership of a nearly new 2.0 Zetec Mondeo Mk 3 (wow these cars have improved over the years!) The stated grade of engine oil is 5/30, 10/30?
I have 20+ litres of 5/40 fully synth left over from my SAAB days. Can I use it or will the Wroth of the Gods of Dagenham reek havoc upon mine engine?

Thanks, I'll go with it come oil change time.

Any idea why there seems to be such an insistance on the thinner oil from Ford? Apart from, presumably, a slight improvement in fuel consumption?

Also, do these engines have hydrualic or solid lifters?

Initially the Zetec engine suffered from sticking valves so the thinner weight went some way to alleviating it. All later engines went over to solids for better emissions.
