Ford Mondeo general questions
I'm an Australian who currently drives 1987 Nissan Pulsar. Want to upgrade to Mondeo in another year for $10 000 to $15 000. Prefer ST24 6 cyl model or at least a 1998 facelifted model.
I've read the things to watch for are minor oil leaks, cooling system leaks, wear in the steering and suspension bushes, and heater fan failure. Of course I'd try to avoid buying one with any of these problems but I'm interested to know repair costs for them since I guess they would likely develop later anyway.
I've heard parts are expensive, but then people say the same thing about Nissan parts. Does anyone know how parts for the Mondeo would compare with my current car?
Does anyone know the approximate cost of maintenance and servicing for
10 000 to 15 000 km per year? Best to get Ford dealer to work on it or good trusted mechanic?
My main concern is reliability since Parker Reader reviews rate it 3 stars out of 5. What do others think about its reliability? Is it a car that often fails to start or completely breaks down?
Can it be converted to LPG and would it be advisable to do this for 6 cyl model?
How easy is it to park?
Would a dealer mind if I asked for a test drive (if I told him I would buy in another year)?
Easy to change oil/air filter yourself?
Why do they devalue fast here?
How long does engine last? 200 000 4 cyl and 300 000 6 cyl?
Were any 2001 onwards models imported from US to Australia? If so, how much do they cost here?
Links to pictures - both pre 1998 face lift and after would also be appreciated.
