I have a 1993 ford mondeo 1.6 and like an idiot i have lost my keys. I have been in touch with the ford maindealer and they said it was going to cost (to me anyway) a small fortune to have the key replaced because it has to be linked to the immobilser. They also said that even if I got a new barrel and key from a scraspyard i would still have to take it to them for the key to be linked to the immobiliser.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it done on the cheap on account the car is only worth about £300 and I just cant afford it.

I also don't know what a Mondeo is. If you can tell me what an American equivelant would be, I may have some advice. Here in the states, ford didn't use transponder equiped key's till 1996

My book only shows the contour starting in 1995, but none the less. How are locksmiths in your area? Call one that has a walk in shop,(not just a moblie service) tell them your situation and ask what is the cheapest way to get a key for your car.
Depending on the car, you can remove a lock, and take it to them, and get a key relatively cheap.If you have the owners manual that came with your car, the dealer may have written down the key code in it. If so they should be able to cut a key by this code.
