Fuel Pump Shut off Switch

Hi. I would appreciate it if someone could answer this question as directly as possible.

I'm wanting to save myself $30-40 and install a new fuel filter myself. I've done it before, but when I did it previously, I didn't know you had to depressurize the fuel system.

In an effort to be safe, I want to shut the fuel pump lines off as I do this.

Can I simply just unplug the fuel pump shut off switch to and let the car die to depressurize the fuel system?

People mention a schrader valve and fuel manifold in the process. That's all well and good, but I dont know where those parts are, have few tools, and really dont want to learn. If disconnecting the fuel pump switch WONT work, I'll just take it to the dealership.

So, will this work or not? :) Thank you!

Re: Fuel Pump Shut off Switch

If you mean on your 98 Crown Vic, yes that will work. Run the car until the engine quits and replacee the filter. Plug it in and you're ready to go.

Yes- 98 Crown Vic (sorry).

I did do this today, and it worked perfectly. It was incredibly simple.

Thanks again for the fast, direct answer! :)
