Hi peoples, i really hope someone can help me. I'm in Australia and I've got a 1997 Ford Mondeo 4sp auto that is starting to play up. It has trouble engaging reverse, you need to rev it to about 2000 to 2500 rpm before it will engage. I've had it to a mechanic and he says that the gearbox is on the way out and I need to get a recondition at the cost of about $3000. He said that the oil wasn't low but that the oil was burn't. He also says that the other gears are slipping. I personally don't notice that the other gears slip so i'm hoping that someone can shed a light on any other causes it could be. (Cheaper causes would be really nice too!! I can only hope.) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
