Help! Electrical problem on 98 Contour... - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

...I just got in and rolled driver window down and was about
two blocks away when smoke started coming out the driver door.
I thought I dropped fire from my cigarette. But, it was coming from inside the door and from the A/C on the dash. It is electrical. I unhooked the battery and am watching it close to make sure it is out.
Any ideas??

I guess the main culprit was the main wire to the electric door locks.
The smoke from the dash may have been the wire leading to the other doors.
Not sure what other wiring ,if any, was also effected. Will know more tomorrow.

Still have no idea what caused it.

According to my mechanic, a pin from the power window slid out and shorted against the power door locks somehow. That's his story and he's sticking to it.
