Mondeo 1.8 TD 98 CV joint ???

Left hand down, full lock there's a repeating "GONK" sound.
When going straight no sound unless over uneven surface.
Only a slight turn to the right and the sound appears again but no where
near as noisily as on the full left lock.
Is it the CV joint?

Could be but when bad they usually "click" when turning tight.

Re: Mondeo 1.8 TD 98 CV joint ???

hmm, if it's the same sort of 'GONK' I've had on other Fords then it could
be the road spring turning with the strut (they do have struts don't they?
sorry but i've been out imbibing) and the top bearing is a bit dry. You can
actually see this happen as you turn the wheel and the spring sticks then
frees off.
Squirt some WD40 or whatever on the top mount and see if it cures it for a
bit.
Or does it only happen while moving? in which case then maybe you're right
with the cv joint thing, re-packing it with grease might help.
