Re: mondeo 18 lx clutch adjustment

There is an adjusting nut/locknut at the gearbox end, you need to tighten to raise the pedal off the floor. Clutch pedal should be just a little higher than the brake. If it's still not right, the problem's not adjustment.

Re: mondeo 18 lx clutch adjustment

Sounds like you're at the pedal end? The adjuster's at the other end ie gearbox side, should be 1 ten-mil nut tightened onto another, if I remember rightly; long time since I've done one, they're all hydraulic now.

Re: mondeo 18 lx clutch adjustment

Hi Fordtech

Thank you for responding

The allen key nut is at the gearbox end, on the clutch lever and if you remember it looks like a square on the end of the lever were the cable goes through and there,s a allen key nut facing you the allen nut is on the end of the cable and to get to it properly the air ducting over the top has to be removed (just trying to jar your memory there!!) but whats confusing is that i can,t feel the locknut behind the lever but i guess there must be one ive never seen an arragement like this there normally stright forward on most cars but i do know adjustment is the problem.

Re: mondeo 18 lx clutch adjustment

Right, you need to go further along the cable, the adjuster lies in between the clutch arm and where the cable goes through the gearbox, you'll see a 2" long hexagonal section with a small nut at the end, you need 2 10 mil spanners, undo the locknut, spin it down the thread to give yourself some room, and turn the hexagon so that it starts to pull the cable tighter, keep checking your pedal height until you're happy.
