Oil pump Help!!!!
I just rebuilt my 1997 Contour 2.0 engine and it fired right up, but oil pressure light stays on. I shut it down not damage the engine bearings. I have two questions. #1 What is the best way to prime the oil pump? I did not pack it with vaseline, but I did smear lithium assembly grease inside the oil pump. #2 We took the oil pump apart and unfortunately, we did not pay attention as to how the oil pressure relief valve went back in. We went by pictures of other ford manuals, but the vehicle repair manual does not list a picture or mention of the oil pressure valve in the oil pump. We put it back in with the long slender shaft in first with the cup portion towards the outside of the pump (plug) and then the spring and plug. Is this right? Thanks.
