I inadvertently inserted my 1995 Mustang ignition key into my 1995 Contour ignition switch, and the key will not release. It appears as though it is jammed, and the key cannot be removed. Is there any way that I can release this jammed key, so that I may recover my 1995 mustang key and be able to use my correct 1995 contour ignition key.
What a mistake it was for me to do this, and I hope that there is a solution to this problem.
No real trick, just going to have to be force. Give it a little shot of oil in the keyway and pull out with vise grips. Just make sure you pull straight out. Maybe need a little tap, tap, tap on the vise grips rather than just pulling.
Well that's what I was planning to do, however didn't have to. I found a message response to another where the correct ignition key was also stuck in the ignition. Seems that there is a little trick that allows the ford dealers to make money. The key ignition lock will actually move in and out about 1/16" and this slight movement when the key is inserted and removed can be used to release the "stuck" key. All I had to do was to use a screw driver to hold the lock cylinder that had the "stuck" key inserted in place while I tried to remove the "stuck" key. Amazingly the key almost flew out of the lock cylinder with just a slight pull to remove it.
