I have replaced my lock cylinder 3 tims because keys keep getting stuck. I tried a different brand of lock BWD, and the key still stays stuck in the tumbler. I follow the directions and nothing happens. Here is what i do.
With the shroud off from the colum i turn the key to click once.
I use a small awl to push the pin down that hold the assembly in.
i slide the whole assembly out.
i take the new one and line up the holes and that pin
i push the assembly into the spot and it clicks in
i turn the key and it starts the engine
i turn off the car and the key wont come out.
Am i doing something wrong here or am i just stupid. 4 times the same thing happening is not bad luck, i just think im doing something wrong.
You are doing it correct. Some cars have a solenoid, that when it fails, it won't let the lock turn all the way back so yu can remove the key. Removal of the solenoid is one way, but to replace would keep it safer. All it does is keeping someone from turning off the switch and removing the key, therefore locking up the steering wheel.
